I’ve been playing online closing in on two years now and have moved up from the $.05/$.10 limit tables to play in $5/$10 games at times. Right now you will find me at the $3/$6 tables on most sites.
This is a great time to be playing poker, even if you are a beginner or seasoned pro. As I write this I’m getting updates to see who is leading the 2005 WSOP, and just waiting for the ESPN coverage to begin on TV. As the TV coverage keeps growing it will keep bringing new players to the game and more chances for players to earn good money at the tables. My next article will cover the basics on getting started with a real money account online and what you need to know.

Punters decided to take a gamble on PartyGaming and it paid off in spades, the value of the online poker firm hit £5.96bn. PartyGaming shares were trading at 150.5p today following a strong day on Thursday when retail investors could but shares in the group for the first time.

“The Main Event” of the WSOP— in which anyone can buy in for $10,000 — will attract a field of up to 6,600 players and a $60 million-plus prize pool, with first place paying an expected $10 million. Norman Chad has written a very insightful article about the rise of poker. I rather liked this part of his article:

PartyGaming floated today, and the founders must have felt rather pleased with themselves, trousering a cool $1 billion by lunchtime.

Clearly, all the talk of the disputed legality of their operations in the US hasn’t deterred too many investors.
It’s technically illegal in the United States, but with an estimated $9 billion IPO scheduled for next week, everyone is talking about the company that owns PartyPoker.com.

PartyGaming walks a very thin line. Providing online gambling is not illegal per se in the United States, the company argues - federal prosecutors just say it is. The company has already received an e-mail message from the Louisiana attorney general demanding that it cease providing online gambling in that state; PartyGaming simply ignored the communication and waited for additional action that never came.
Research and Markets, a company offering international market research and data on various topics, released its latest research effort, “Online Poker — Driving Gambling to New Heights.” With over $60 billion estimated to be wagered at online poker websites throughout the year, poker is the hot topic in the online gaming industry.
